The Dum Dum Ditty-The Goodies
00:00 / 02:49

Recorded at Mira Sound Studios in the wee small hours one morning in 1965, "The Dum Dum Ditty" takes off with Maryann's lead vocals and the perfect harmonies of Diane, Maureen and Sue.

WMCA disc jockeys Dandy Dan Daniels and Harry Harrison knew the girls had a hit on their hands and invited them to perform at area shows including the legendary WMCA High School Hops.  In addition to their many personal appearances, The Goodies found themselves thrust into the TV spotlight courtesy of such programs as The Clay Cole Show.

Blue Cat 117 - USA 1965 - Top Ten GIRL POP / GIRL GROUP songs of the 60's. Number 8. The Goodies did "Leader Of The Pack" originally, but it only exists as an unheard demo.  When the ShangriLas needed a followup to their "Remember Walking in the Sand", Leader of the Pack was given to them instead of The Goodies.

"Sophisticated Boom Boom" is included on "The Shadow Morton Story" album, produced by Ace Records from London, in 2013.

From the album's 38-page booklet, Shadow Morton says:

"Leader of the Pack" was NOT written for the Shangri-Las. It was written for another group from Levittown, Long Island, called The Goodies.

They never had a lot of success. I have no answer why. I found them during the time "Remember" was out. I liked them. They liked me. Four girls. They sang good. I simply wanted to make a record with them. Jerry Leiber came to me on one of my rare appearances on Broadway [looking for a new song. I told him about "Leader of the Pack."] I was told not to produce it. I thought I was fired. I thought that was it."

Shadow decided to make the record, whether Jerry Leiber liked it or not. He sneaked out to Ultra-Sonic, a Long Island studio owned by his friend Billy Stahl, and cut "Leader of the Pack" with The Goodies - lead singer Maryann Gesmundo [Regal], Susan Gelber and sisters Diane and Maureen Reilling - known at the time as The Bunnies.
